Ed Hiley

Ed Hiley currently serves as the Technical Director at Hippo since July 2023. Prior to this role, Ed held the position of Chief Technology Officer and Director of Engineering at The Data Shed from September 2021 to September 2023. At NHS Digital from November 2012 to September 2021, Ed was the Head of Engineering and Technology, along with roles as Principal Systems Engineer and Solution Architect. Ed's tenure at the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence from April 2009 to November 2012 as Associate Director included forming and managing a development function delivering various web services and applications. Ed also led a team as Lead Developer at NHS Institute from November 2007 to April 2009. Ed's career began with development roles at companies such as EMIS, Medisoft Limited, and Nexus Technology. Academically, Ed earned a Master’s degree in Software Systems Technology from The University of Sheffield and has a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the same institution, in addition to completing a course on Functional Programming Principles in Scala from École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in 2015.
