Shiping Wu

Vice President of New Drug Research and Development, Discovery Projects Unit at HitGen

Shiping Wu has extensive experience in drug research and development. Shiping began their career as a Research Fellow at the Biotechnology Research Center at Zhongshan University in 1995. Shiping then moved to Washington State University in 1998 as a USDA Postdoctoral Fellow, where they designed and performed cell and genetics, molecular biology and biochemistry studies. In 2000, they became a Senior Research Scientist and Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Center for Pulmonary and Infectious Disease Control at the University of Texas Health Science Center. Here, they studied virulent factors and developed novel drugs and vaccines for treatment of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Chlamydia pneumonia infection.

In 2006, Shiping Wu joined Protez Pharmaceuticals/a wholly owned subsidy of Novartis as a Senior Scientist and Group Leader-Biology. Shiping worked on multiple projects to discover and develop new drugs for difficult-to-treat pathogen/disease. In 2011, they became a Senior Staff Scientist at Accugenix Inc, where they were responsible for bacterial and fungal genetic, molecular and morphological microbial identification and characterization. In 2012, they joined Stiefel, a GSK company as a Program/Project Leader and Investigator. Here, they worked on new drug and consumer product research and development from discovery to clinical development including after marketing medical affair activities.

In 2014, Shiping Wu became the Chief Scientific Officer at Wuhan Vision Pharmaceutical Technology Co. Shiping held this role until 2019, when they joined Wuhan Optics Valley Yatai Pharmaceutical Research Institute Co, Ltd as the Chief Scientific Officer. Shiping is currently the Vice President of New Drug Research and Development, Discovery Projects Unit at HitGen Inc., where they are responsible for anti cancer and other R&D leadership, as well as leveraging external partnership and/or establishing internal drug discovery and development capabilities to support building an industry leading pipeline.

Shiping Wu received a M.D./Ph.D. in Biomedical/Molecular Biology from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, P.R.China between 1992 and 1995.
