Derek Ruhland

Derek Ruhland has a diverse work experience spanning different industries and roles. Derek began their career in 2005 as an Assistant Managing Editor at Elsevier Science, where they developed and maintained an editorial calendar for a scholarly journal. In 2010, they worked as an Intelligence Analyst at Security Industry Specialists, Inc., where they analyzed security-relevant intelligence and compiled reports for clients. Derek then joined trainCast LLC in 2011 as a Content Developer and later became a Content Coordinator, overseeing the production of digital training content. In 2013, they joined Security Industry Specialists as a Content Coordinator, responsible for coordinating CMS and LMS implementation. Derek also served as a Content Manager, working on a large-scale instructional design contract and as an Editor in Chief for company-wide publications. Derek's most recent role is as a Product Director at Hiveclass since 2023.

Derek Ruhland received a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Physical and Biological Anthropology, as well as Spanish and Iberian Studies, from UC Santa Barbara. Derek attended UC Santa Barbara from 2005 to 2009. In addition, they studied Spanish and Iberian Studies at Universitat de Barcelona from 2007 to 2008. Derek also obtained a CPR Instructor certification from ASHI in July 2014.
