Mark Whitbread

Chief Business Officer at Hometree

Mark Whitbread is the current Chief Business Officer at Hometree. Prior to their current position, Whitbread was the Director of Insurance & Business Development at British Gas from February 2013 to June 2017. There, they were responsible for the transformation of the British Gas Home Services Business from a non-insured to an insured basis; this included creating a new insurance company (British Gas Insurance Limited - BGIL), developing a new insurance product portfolio, and migrating c.4 million customers and 8 million products to the insured portfolio. Whitbread also launched Home Insurance for British Gas in 2013 and grew the area of the business to c.70,000 policies.

From September 2017 to April 2019, Whitbread was the Director of KDM Management Services Limited, which they established with their business partner Kevin D'Arcy following their career at Centrica. Mark undertook consultancy for several insurance companies and Hometree during this time in relation to a strategic review of the home services market.

Mark Whitbread has a background in strategic development, having earned a certificate in general management from Durham University, a diploma in accounting and finance from the University of Manchester, and a bachelor of science in chemistry and biochemistry from the University of Central Lancashire. Mark also has an A-level in chemistry, biology, maths with statistics, and computer science.

Mark Whitbread reports to Simon Phelan, Founder & CEO. Some direct reports include Blanca Mercade - Growth Director, Nick Bellman - Director of Business Development. Mark Whitbread works with Meghan Turner - Head of Customer Care and Repairs, Alejandro Yanez - Head of Product, and Simon Veingard - COO.
