Hope Strengthens Foundation was founded by longtime friends James Fahey and Jacob Ferreira while rallying to support a mutual friend, Joe Merry, during his battle with and recovery from cancer.

Throughout his fight, Joe was empowered by a simple yet compelling motto: Hope Strengthens. His family and friends drew strength from those words too, coming together to form a powerful community of support. To ease Joe's financial burden while he was out of work, the group organized a fundraiser, giving him the peace of mind necessary to focus entirely on healing.

While Joe is now happily in remission and cancer-free, his journey revealed a much larger need.

Today, Hope Strengthens Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity dedicated to providing critical financial support to individuals and families facing life-threatening illnesses, disabilities, or traumatic injuries. We bridge the gap for those experiencing severe hardship by helping cover medical expenses, purchasing specialized recovery equipment, and funding costs directly related to essential care.

But our impact doesn’t stop there.

To drive long-term change in the medical community, we also champion the next generation of caregivers. We have established dedicated scholarship programs with the University of New Hampshire College of Health and Human Services and Northeastern University’s Bouvé College of Health Sciences. These scholarships support aspiring healthcare professionals who face financial barriers, ensuring they have the resources needed to complete their education and serve others.
