Front-line leaders run the unit. They make the decisions that keep people safe and production running, often under pressure, with limited time, and without training built for the role they actually hold.

Most process safety training is written for engineers or corporate staff. Front-line leaders often get handed the same material and told to apply it in the control room and out in the unit. It doesn't fit, and the industry keeps paying the price in incidents that look preventable in hindsight.

Closing that gap is currently the primary focus of HSE Engineering LLC.

I provide process safety training and consulting for refining, petrochemicals, and upstream operations, grounded in four decades of industry experience, the CCPS Risk-Based Process Safety framework, and Human and Organizational Performance principles.

My primary offering is on-site training purpose-built for front-line leaders, designed around the decisions they make and the pressures they face. Alongside the training practice, I take on process safety consulting engagements where the work fits.

"Process Safety for Front-Line Leaders", forthcoming from HSE Engineering Press, is a reference book on process safety written with the front-line leader as the intended reader.

HSE Engineering LLC is launching in 2026. Founded by Danny White, PE, CSP, former chair of the AFPM Human and Organizational Performance subgroup and co-author of the CCPS bow tie methodology book.
