Michael Jurek

Michael Jurek is the current Director of Finance at Human Ventures. Prior to their current position, Michael was a Senior Accountant at WeWork from September 2015 to November 2016 and at Quirky.com from June 2014 to September 2015.

At Quirky, Michael was responsible for holding the financial team accountable for all journal entries and ensuring that what was coded was properly captured in the system. Michael also provided the Controller and CFO with financial information they needed in order to make larger company decisions. Additionally, Michael assisted in implementing a new chart of accounts that would streamline financial projections and month-end close.

Michael's other accomplishments at Quirky include analyzing the company's financials in order to find areas of improvement in regards to controls and processes, researching and comprehending tax laws to help Quirky stay compliant with government regulations (which ultimately saved the company $57,000 in sales tax related to manufacturing equipment leases), filing monthly and quarterly sales tax returns in order to remain compliant with 9 states in which the company had Nexus, managing the company-wide expense reporting system and corporate credit card program using Expensify, preparing journal entries, roll-forward schedules and reconciliations to close each month and quarter, and successfully managing a financial statement audit by Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC) for the 2013 fiscal year.

In their previous positions, Michael has gained proficiency in Excel modeling, NetSuite systems, Expensify, and US GAAP.

Michael Jurek has a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business and Clarence High School. Michael is certified in CPR and Certified Public Accountant from the Accountancy Board of Ohio. Michael is also certified in Tourism Ambassador from the Tourism Ambassador Institute - Experience Columbus.
