Great communities take care of their corner of the world. Hunter Resource Recovery helps the Hunter's 166,000 households do exactly that — one yellow bin at a time.

We're a not-for-profit owned by four Hunter councils — Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Cessnock, and Singleton — and our work spans education, behaviour change, community engagement, and the day-to-day management of recycling services across the region.

We educate communities, run campaigns, and work directly with residents to make recycling easier, clearer, and more consistent — because good intentions aren't enough if the information isn't there.

Our REAL Team (Recycling Education and Liaison) conducts checks across all four council areas — helping residents get it right, and feeding real data into the waste strategies that drive improvement at scale.

We also manage the region's recycling contract, support residents with missed collections, damaged or lost bins, and serve as the single point of contact when something needs sorting.

Across 166,000 Hunter homes and businesses, small behaviour changes add up to something significant — less contamination, less landfill, better outcomes for everyone.

That's what we're here for.

🌱 Better recycling. Better outcomes. For the Hunter.
