Joe Brew has a long and varied work experience. Joe began their career in 2011 as a Translator for Physicians for Haiti. In 2012, they worked as an Analyst for Agència de Salut Pública de Barcelona and as a Maternal Health Consultant (Epidemiologist) for the Tigray Regional Health Bureau / University of Mekelle. In 2013, they worked as an Epidemiologist for the Florida Department of Health. In 2014, they were an Analyst at Analyst Institute and a Fellow at the Eric and Wendy Schmidt Data Science for Social Good Summer Fellowship at University of Chicago, helping the Chicago Department of Public Health to predict lead poisoning before it occurs. In 2015, they were a Data Scientist for Lendable. In 2016, they were a Data Scientist for DataBrew and a Researcher for the Barcelona Institute for Global Health. Finally, in 2020, they became the Co-Founder and CEO of Hyfe.
Joe Brew obtained their Bachelor's degree from The University of the South in 2004-2008, majoring in History, French, and Spanish. Joe then attended Institut Catholique de Paris in 2008-2009, where they obtained a Master 2 in Histoire Contemporaine. From 2011-2012, Joe attended Universidad de Granada and obtained a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health Promotion, and Health Management. Joe then attended Copenhagen School of Global Health in 2012-2013, obtaining another Master of Public Health (MPH) in Public Health. Lastly, Joe Brew obtained their Doctorate (PhD) from Barcelona Institute for Global Health in 2016-2021, in the Faculty of Medicine - Transdisciplinary Solutions for Global Health - Economics of malaria.
