Chief Medical Officer at Hyfe

Peter Small has had a long and varied career in the medical and research fields. Peter began their career at Stanford University School of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases in 2000, where they were an Associate Professor of Medicine with tenure. From there, they moved to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in 2002, where they were the Founding Director of the Foundation's TB program and subsequently served as the TB Program Global Leader and Deputy Director of Tuberculosis Delivery. In 2005, they joined the Institute for Systems Biology as a Professor and in 2018 they became a Fellow at The Rockefeller Foundation. In 2019, they were appointed Senior Director of Global Health Technologies at Global Good/GH Labs, and in 2020 they joined SeaChange Fund as a Member Investor. Most recently, in 2021, they were appointed Chief Medical Officer at Hyfe, where they are responsible for building acoustic tools for respiratory diagnostics and monitoring.

Peter Small obtained a Diploma from PK Yonge Laboratory School (University of Florida) in 1977. Peter then went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Chemistry from Princeton University in 1981. In 1985, they completed a Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the University of Florida. From 1985 to 1988, they completed a Medical Residency at the University of California, San Francisco. In 1988, they became a Chief Medical Resident at the same university. In 1989, they were a Research Fellow in Clinical Pharmacology at the University of California, San Francisco - School of Medicine. From 1990 to 1994, they were a Post Doctoral Fellow in Infectious Diseases at Stanford University School of Medicine. In 1992, they obtained Board Certification in Infectious Diseases from the American Board of Internal Medicine. In 1988, they obtained Board Certified in Internal Medicine from the same institution. Peter also has a Medical License from the State of California.
