Derek Kita is currently a Senior Staff Engineer at HyperLight, where they lead the TFLN datacom product line focused on intra-datacenter optics. Previously, they co-founded InSpek, aimed at enhancing biological and chemical processes through integrated photonic sensors, and interned at MIT Lincoln Laboratory within the Quantum Information and Integrated Nanosystems Group. Derek earned a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where they conducted research on optical components for photonic integrated circuits and spectroscopic chemical detection.
