YewTai Chieng

YewTai Chieng has extensive experience in optical technology and engineering management, beginning as a Research Staff Member at the University of Sydney from January 1990 to December 1993, where research focused on high-speed optical receivers and erbium-doped fiber amplifiers. Chieng played a pivotal role in founding Finisar Singapore in 2001, growing it into a prominent R&D center until July 2018, and held the position of Site Manager and Senior Director of Transceiver Development at Finisar Corporation during the same period. Chieng's expertise continued at Intel Corporation from August 2018 to August 2023 as Engineering Director, establishing a new product development center for high-speed optical transceivers. Currently, Chieng serves as Site Manager in Singapore for HyperLight, focusing on Thin Film Lithium Niobate technology. Academic qualifications include a Master’s in APD optical receivers and a PhD in Wavelength Tuning Dynamics from the University of Sydney, alongside a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Melbourne.
