Mike Bates

Mike Bates currently serves as the Head of Engineering at IAAPS, a position held since February 2025. Before this role, Mike held various significant positions, including Managing Director at Proventia UK Ltd and Proventia Oy, and Technical Lead in Test Operations at Ricardo. Previous experience includes a tenure as Test Engineering Team Leader at Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains and Test Operations Manager at Ceres Power. Mike's extensive background at Ricardo encompasses multiple roles such as Test Facility Operations Manager and Principal Engineer. With a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from Loughborough University and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Brighton, Mike has a solid academic foundation in engineering coupled with substantial expertise in gasoline engine research and development, cylinder head design, and customer programme leadership.
