Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Manager at Institute of Art, Design & Technology

Claire is Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Manager at IADT Dún Laoghaire and a member of the central management team. She chairs the IADT Athena SWAN self-assessment team and the IADT Promoting Consent & Preventing Sexual Violence Working Group. Claire is a member of numerous sectoral committees concerned with EDI issues in higher education, including the HEA National Committee for Gender Equality/EDI, the Athena SWAN Ireland National Committee and HEA Intersectionality Working Group. She is also a member of the Royal Irish Academy Higher Education Futures Group and EDI sub-group. In 2020/21, Claire coordinated a collaboration between IADT animation students and academic staff, NUIG Active* Consent and UCC Bystander Intervention to develop a series of animations on sexual consent that will be shared with the higher education sector (funded by the HEA). Claire’s academic research centres on the theory and practice of women’s political representation and she has published extensively in this field. Recent publications include Women doing politics differently: Developing local caucuses with women councillors (2021, for the National Women’s Council of Ireland) and a co-edited special issue of Irish Political Studies on gender and politics on the island of Ireland (forthcoming, 2021).
