Joseph Christensen

Joseph Christensen, Ph.D., is a Senior Nuclear Safety Officer specializing in integrated nuclear safety analysis and nuclear criticality safety. They currently serve as the acting Section Head of the Research Reactor Safety Section at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), where they manage activities related to safety standards and capacity-building for Member States. Joseph previously held various roles in nuclear safety and engineering, including positions at GE-Hitachi Nuclear Energy and the U.S. Department of Energy. They have extensive experience from their time in the United States Navy, where they served as a Lieutenant Junior Grade, and completed their Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Idaho.
