Tom Kamperman

Co-Founder & CTO at IamFluidics BV

Tom Kamperman has a diverse work experience in the field of biomaterials and tissue engineering. Tom is the Co-Founder and CTO of IamFluidics BV since March 2018. Tom also served as the National Representative for the European Society for Biomaterials - Young Scientist Forum (ESB-YSF) starting from September 2018.

Between January 2021 and September 2022, Tom worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Twente. Prior to that, they were a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School from January 2020 to December 2020.

Tom's earlier experience includes working at the University of Twente as a Postdoctoral Researcher from January 2018 to January 2020, where they specialized in engineered microfluidic platforms and optimized biomaterials for the 3D culture of stem cells in microgels. During this time, they also supervised PhD and master students and contributed to grant writing. Additionally, they worked as a PhD student from March 2013 to December 2017, focusing on microgel technologies for modular tissue engineering. Tom also worked as a researcher at the University of Twente, where they developed a microfluidic chip for embryo culture and monitoring respiratory activity from February 2013 to March 2013.

Tom's earlier roles include being a student assistant at the University of Twente from January 2010 to May 2012, where they assisted in cell biology, DNA technology, and tissue engineering courses. Tom also served as a presenter and coordinator for Open Days from November 2007 to March 2010.

Tom also gained internship experience at the Max-Planck Institute for molecular Biomedicine from March 2011 to June 2011, where they tested factors to increase the reprogramming efficiency of induced pluripotent stem cell generation.

Tom Kamperman has demonstrated a strong background in research, project management, and leadership in the field of biomaterials and tissue engineering.

Tom Kamperman completed their high school education at Marianum from 2000 to 2006, with a focus on nature, health, technology, and creative arts. Tom then went on to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Twente, graduating in 2009. Following their bachelor's degree, they continued their education at the University of Twente and obtained a Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering, specializing in molecular, cellular, and tissue engineering in 2012. Tom furthered their studies at the University of Twente and completed their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Biomedical Engineering in 2017. Tom obtained additional certifications including a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Twente in 2018, a Technical Writing and Editing Course from Peterborough Technical Communication in 2014, a Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Twente in 2012, and a DISA Certificate (didactic skills) from the University of Twente in 2011.
