Founded over 25 years ago by Ian Adam-Smith, the Practice specialises in designing and restoring English country houses. Ian’s eldest son, Mungo, joined full-time in 2023, continuing the family tradition of creating homes where architecture, interiors, and landscape work together as an integrated, lifestyle-led whole. The Practice focuses on houses that feel naturally evolved over time, whether new builds, sensitive refurbishments, or historic estate restorations.

With over 700 projects completed across the South of England, including West Sussex, Hampshire, and Surrey, the Practice combines meticulous attention to detail with deep knowledge of planning, heritage, and property values. Notable work includes restorations and additions to Arts & Crafts houses by Sir Edwin Lutyens, Charles F. A. Voysey, Richard Norman Shaw, and Sir Robert Lorimer. Each project is approached as a coherent whole, resulting in homes that are handsome, balanced, and built to endure.

Ian and Mungo Adam-Smith’s approach is informed by a lifelong immersion in English country houses, art, and design, and a dedication to quality over quantity.
