Murray Campbell

Murray Campbell is a Distinguished Research Scientist at IBM Research AI, focusing on the systematic evaluation of AI systems and their reasoning capabilities. Previously, they were integral to the development of Deep Blue, the first computer to defeat the reigning world chess champion. Murray has held various management roles at IBM Research from 1997 to 2021 and was a Research Associate at Carnegie Mellon University from 1987 to 1989. They hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University and a M.Sc. in Computing Science from the University of Alberta, where they also completed a B.Sc. in the same field.
