Virginia Dignum is a Professor of Responsible Artificial Intelligence at Umeå University, Sweden, where they lead the AI Policy Lab. They also serve as a senior advisor on AI policy to the Wallenberg Foundations and chair the ACM’s Technology Policy Council. Virginia earned a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from Utrecht University in 2004 and was appointed Wallenberg Scholar in 2024. Additionally, they are a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences and a Fellow of the European Artificial Intelligence Association and ELLIS. Virginia's advocacy for responsible AI governance includes contributions to several international organizations, and they are preparing to publish a new book titled “The AI Paradox” in late 2024.
