Francesca Buffa

Francesca Buffa is a Full Professor of Computing Sciences at Università Bocconi, focusing on the application of AI to Life and Health Sciences. At the University of Oxford, Francesca serves as the Head of the Computational Biology and Integrative Genomics Lab, utilizing advanced computational approaches to understand cancer complexity and treatment responses. As a Principal Investigator with the European Research Council, Francesca leads the microC research program on tumor microenvironment modeling. Additionally, Francesca heads the AI & Systems Biology Lab at IFOM and contributes as a Visiting Professor in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology at the University of Tsukuba. Francesca has held multiple roles in cancer research and education since 2004, including positions at Cancer Research UK, the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics, and the Medical Research Council. Francesca holds a PhD in Physics and Applied Mathematics from the University of London and completed postdoctoral training in biomathematics and computational biology at the University of Oxford.
