Duncan Macqueen

Director of Forests

Duncan Macqueen is the Director of Forests at the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), a position they have held since joining as a researcher in 2001. Prior to this, Duncan was the Deputy Program Manager for the UK Department for International Development's Forestry Research Programme, and Technical Cooperation Officer at Embrapa Amazonia Oriental in Brazil. Duncan's early career included research at the Oxford Forestry Institute, where they focused on agroforestry tree improvement in Central America. An alumnus of the University of Oxford, Duncan holds both an MSc in Forestry and Land Use, where they were a Jubilee Prize Winner, and an MA in Botany, graduating with First Class honors. Through their work, Duncan has managed numerous projects on forest governance, agroforestry, and climate action across more than 60 countries.
