Paul Steele has extensive work experience as an economist and advisor in various environmental and development organizations. Paul has served as the Chief Economist at the International Institute for Environment and Development since November 2015. Prior to that, they worked as an Environment Advisor at the UNDP from 2006 to 2014. Paul also held positions as an Associate Research Fellow at the Institute of Policy Studies of Sri Lanka from 2004 to 2006 and as an Environmental Economics Advisor at the Department for International Development from 1999 to 2003. Paul has also worked as a Consultant at Economics for the Environment Consultancy Limited from 1998 to 1999 and as an Environmental Economist at Development Options Private Ltd from 1996 to 1998.

Paul Steele attended the University of Oxford from 1988 to 1991, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics. Paul then went on to pursue a Master of Science degree in Natural Resource Economics at UCL from 1991 to 1992. No information is provided about their time at Boston University.
