Ruth Pinto

Ruth Pinto is a seasoned professional in the fields of environmental justice and community conservation, currently serving as a Research Consultant at the International Institute for Environment and Development since October 2020. Ruth has contributed significantly to the Conservation, Communities, and Equity programme, focusing on equitable conservation approaches in collaboration with Indigenous Peoples and local communities. Ruth's academic background includes a PhD in Politics of Development and Environmental Justice from the University of East Anglia, where a multi-year research project on environmental restoration in Indonesia was undertaken. Previous roles include Research Associate at the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment, Communications Officer at Central European University, and Project Officer at the Foundation for Ecological Security, among others, showcasing a robust commitment to environmental governance and community advocacy. Ruth holds a Master's Degree in Environmental Sciences, Policy and Management as part of the MESPOM programme and a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from St. Xavier's College.
