Ruby Bailey currently serves as Editor-in-Chief for the Illinois Answers Project, a nonpartisan investigations and solutions journalism organization, since January 2024. Previously, Ruby held various editorial positions including Consumer Editor at USA TODAY, Opinion and Public Engagement Editor at The Indianapolis Star, and Executive Editor of the Columbia Missourian while also serving as a Professor and Endowed Chair for Community Newspaper Management at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Ruby's extensive experience includes roles as Continuous News Editor at The Sacramento Bee and Assistant Metro Editor for Breaking News at the Detroit Free Press, along with a reporting position at The Detroit News. Ruby holds a Master's degree in Theology from Biola University, a Digital Media Skills certification from American University, and a Bachelor's degree in Communication and Media Studies from Wayne State University.
