CogniVision has its roots in ImageScan, Inc., a Pasadena, California-based company founded in 1991 with a singular focus: helping financial institutions make sense of their documents. Not theoretically — operationally, in production, at scale, for some of the most demanding institutions in the world.

From its earliest days, ImageScan was embedded in the real workflows of banking operations. The company provided document imaging conversion services to Fortune 500 financial institutions at a time when the industry was making its first major transition away from paper — converting physical loan files, trust records, and client documents into digital form and helping banks build the infrastructure to manage them.

This wasn't consulting from a distance. It was ground-level engagement with the people who actually worked with documents every day — the commercial lenders, trust officers, relationship managers, and compliance teams who knew exactly what they needed and were increasingly frustrated by what the technology of the era could deliver.

Over more than two decades, ImageScan developed deep expertise in how financial institutions generate, organize, archive, and retrieve documents — and, crucially, where the systems they relied on consistently fell short. That accumulated institutional knowledge became the foundation on which CogniVision was built.
