Dídac Busquets

Co-founder & Chief Scientist at Immense

Dídac Busquets began their career in 2000 as a PhD student at IIIA-CSIC. In 2004, they moved to Carnegie Mellon University as a MEC/Fullbright Postdoc fellow. From 2006 to 2011, they were a Research Fellow at Universitat de Girona, where they worked in the multi-agent systems area, focusing on resource allocation problems and combinatorial auctions. During 2008, they were also a Visiting Researcher at IRIT. From 2011 to 2015, they were a Research Associate at Imperial College London, working at the Intelligent Systems and Networks research group, in the EPSRC project Autonomic Power System. Their research focused on developing mechanisms to use the energy in a more efficient and sustainable ways and by providing the consumers with more decision power. In 2011, they also became a Co-founder, board member and scientific advisor of the start-up from Universitat de Girona (Spain), Newronia, S.L., which specialises in the development of software for optimising the use of resources, focusing on the logistics sector. From 2015 to 2016, they were a Senior Technologist at the Transport Systems Catapult. Since 2016, they have been a Co-founder & Chief Scientist and Co-founder & Solutions Lead at Immense Simulations, leading the development of fleet management systems for autonomous vehicles. Dídac is also seconded to the Transport Systems Catapult to support several projects within its Modelling & Visualisation team.

Dídac Busquets received their PhD in Computer Science from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in 2003, and their BSc in Computer Science from the same institution in 1999. Dídac also holds certifications from Coursera in Exploratory Data Analysis, Getting and Cleaning Data, Reproducible Research, Statistical Inference, Introduction to Data Science, R Programming, and The Data Scientist’s Toolbox, obtained between 2014 and 2015. Additionally, they received the I3 Programme (Incentives for the incorporation and strengthening of research activity) from the Spanish Ministry of Science in 2010, the Tenure-track Lecturer accreditation from the Catalan University Quality Assurance Agency (AQU) in 2010, and a Time Management certification from the University of California, Irvine in 2020.
