Damien Parent

Lead Data Engineer at Implicity

Damien Parent has worked in various roles since 2006. Damien began their career as a PhD Student in Astrophysics at CENBG - Centre d'Etudes Nucléaires de Bordeaux-Gradignan in 2006. During this time, they were in charge of data analysis for the NASA satellite/telescope (Fermi) and was responsible for the conception and management of databases and computing programs (C++/Python). Damien also wrote scientific papers, leading to three published papers. In 2007, they worked as a Chargé de TP/TD at Université de Bordeaux.

From 2009 to 2012, they worked as a Research Engineer at the Naval Research Laboratory. During this time, they were in charge of several research programs to study variable and complex systems in the gamma-ray sky using several NASA and ESA space telescopes. Damien was responsible for coordinating projects with a team of 20 collaborators, formulating the goals and techniques, as well as the actual execution of the research work and overseeing the team’s work and progress. Damien also developed and managed a project to create analysis pipeline (C++/Python) for automated analysis of telescope data and implemented and applied the pipeline on Stanford university servers.

Damien Parent then worked as a Data Engineer at Ecomundo from 2012 to 2016. During this time, they were responsible for the development and management of cloud applications for experts in chemistry, cosmetics, and environment (constraints about data, algorithms, and execution speed). Damien also was responsible for the architecture design and used JavaScript (ExtJS, Bootstrap) for the front-end connected to an application server (Java/J2EE, Hibernate, Spring) and a PostgreSQL database. Damien was also the head of the computing section of the European project CORINE, a Collaborative Ecodesign tool to share modelings and data between contractors and suppliers, and was responsible for software framework development and project management.

From 2016 to 2017, they worked as a Senior Java Developer at Anaplan. During this time, they were responsible for the architecture and development on a Java & JavaScript application (React/Redux/Saga) connected to a Node.js server using GraphQL to aggregate data from Java back-end servers. Damien was also a member of a scrum development team of 6 developers.

Since 2017, they have worked as a Big Data Engineer at AB Tasty. During this time, they have been responsible for the architecture and development of a data collect streaming pipeline (To/day) using components from the Google Cloud Platform (Dataflow, BigQuery, BigTable, Messaging). Damien has also provided senior technical support for the data team.

Currently, Damien Parent is working as a Lead Data Engineer at Implicity since 2022.

Damien Parent completed a Master 2 de Astrophysique, Plasma et Corpuscules from Universit\u00e9 de Bordeaux in 2006, a Master 1 de Physique from Universite\u0301 de Caen in 2005, and a Licence de Physique from Universit\u00e9 de Caen in 2004. All of these degrees were in the field of Physics, with specializations in Nuclear Physics and Scientific Computing.
