Tom Buxton M.sc.

Tom Buxton M.Sc. has a diverse range of work experience spanning over two decades. Tom began their career with Irenyx Data Group Inc. in 1995 as a Business Development Manager. Tom then co-founded VisionQuest Web Services Inc. in 1995 and served as the Chief Technology Officer, where they designed and developed e-commerce and membership management applications.

In 2001, Tom started their own business, Buxton Technical Services, where they worked as an e-Business Consultant and Software Developer until 2004. Tom then joined Precision Drilling as a Wireline & Compact Memory Logging (CML) Field Specialist, where they re-engineered acquisition computer hardware to improve data processing efficiency.

From 2005 to 2015, Tom worked at Schlumberger as an Application Architect, delivering transformational changes to the company's Canadian oilfield data delivery process. Tom also played a key role in developing enterprise-scale applications for automated data management workflows within the company's Global Real-Time Group.

After that, Tom became the Business Owner of Buxton Technologies & Media from 2016 to 2018, where they focused on creating business development and marketing strategies for Canadian and international clients. In 2018, they joined Arcurve Inc. as an Information Technology Contractor, providing business intelligence services to a Canadian O&G company and later supporting a Canadian pipeline company in software testing and technology migration.

In 2020, Tom worked as a Data Scientist at Horsefly Analytics, where they completed their M.Sc. Data Science dissertation, focusing on modeling social media profiles using Neo4J and RDF knowledge graphs. Tom used Rdf2Vec to create node embeddings for classifying job titles using multi-class SVM.

Currently, Tom is employed at Improving as a Data Scientist and Python ETL/Pipeline Developer.

Tom Buxton M.Sc. obtained a Master of Science degree in Data Science from Lancaster University in 2020. Prior to that, they completed a Bachelor's Degree in Geophysics with Planetary Physics at Newcastle University from 1986 to 1989. In 2016 to 2018, Tom earned certificates in Data Science and Analytics, as well as Business Intelligence from Udemy Academy.
