OUR MISSION is to enhance the quality of life, to promote independent functioning, and to facilitate personal growth for adults with a history of mental illness. To achieve this, Independence Center provides ongoing social, educational, vocational, and housing opportunities.

OUR VISION is to provide adults with mental disabilities who seek the opportunity to be productive members of society the tools they need to achieve their goals in independence.

INDEPENDENCE means to be strong in one’s SELF:
Social effectiveness among family, employer, or community. Empowerment to rise above apparent restrictions of mental illness. Longevity in progress and motivation to seek higher achievements.
Functioning ability, whether cognitive, domestic, vocational or communal.

ABOUT US
Since first opening our doors in 1989, we have provided holistic care to more than 3,000 adults with severe and persistent mental illness. From day one, our goal has been dedicated to Member empowerment, a strong consumer orientation, and the belief that a person is more than a set of symptoms associated with a disability. As the name implies, we foster independence, self sufficiency and a satisfying quality of life for each and every one of our Members. The only requirement to joining the Independence Center is to be an adult age 18+ and have an ongoing mental illness.
