The Indian Broadcasting and Digital Foundation (IBDF) is the apex industry body representing India’s television broadcasting and digital media ecosystem. Established in 1999 as the Indian Broadcasting Foundation, IBDF was formed to bring transparency, accountability, and due process in commercial relationships between broadcasters, advertisers, and media agencies.

Over the past two decades, IBDF has played a pivotal role in shaping India’s Media & Entertainment sector through research-based policy advocacy, regulatory engagement, and industry-led self-regulation. In keeping with the evolving media landscape, the organization has expanded its mandate to include digital and OTT platforms, providing them a unified and credible voice.

IBDF’s members span news and non-news genres, including general entertainment, sports, movies, music, and infotainment, collectively managing over 400 channels and accounting for nearly 90% of India’s television viewership and around 95% of industry revenues.

A not-for-profit organization, IBDF actively engages with the Government and regulators to facilitate progressive policies, resolve industry challenges, and strengthen India’s broadcasting and digital ecosystem. It has also established independent self-regulatory bodies such as the Broadcasting Content Complaints Council (BCCC) for television and the Digital Media Content Regulatory Council (DMCRC) for OTT platforms through its subsidiary, the Indian Digital Media Industry Foundation (IDMIF).

Through advocacy, research, self-regulation, and collaboration, IBDF continues to drive responsible growth, innovation, and global competitiveness of India’s media industry.
