Patrick Fitzpatrick served as the Founding Head of the College of Science, Engineering, and Food Science at UCC from 2005 to 2013. Following this role, they were the Principal Adviser and Head of Business Development at UCC Academy from 2014 to 2022, where they also led projects related to Horizon 2020 funding. Additionally, Patrick was the Founding Chair of Energy Cork and the UCC Centre for Global Development. They have maintained a long-standing academic career as a Professor/Emeritus Professor of Mathematics at University College Cork since 1979, focusing on teaching and research in algebra and algebraic coding theory. Patrick holds a PhD in Mathematics from The Australian National University.
