Silvia Ross

Head of School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures

Silvia Ross has extensive experience in academia, particularly in the field of Italian studies. From September 1994 to June 1996, Silvia served as a Visiting Lecturer in Italian at Duke University. Subsequently, from October 1996 to April 2025, Silvia held various positions at University College Cork, including Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, and Professor, focusing on undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Italian culture while supervising doctoral students. Silvia's research interests center on modern and contemporary Italian Literature, exploring themes of space, identity, conflict, and environmental humanities. Additionally, Silvia was appointed Head of the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures and Head of the Department of Italian, as well as Associate Dean of the Graduate School from January 2011 to September 2013, where responsibilities included managing doctoral training and promoting postgraduate programs. Educational qualifications include a PhD in Italian from The Johns Hopkins University and a BA in Italian and French from the University of Toronto.
