Matthew Gilpin has a diverse work experience in various industries. Matthew is currently the Managing Director and Group COO at Lodge Quai, a position they have held since November 2017. Matthew is also the Founder and Chairman of infinityQ Technology Inc, a company focused on quantum-inspired probabilistic AI solutions for logistics and other industries, since September 2019. In addition, they are the Founder and Director of Westmorland Spirits Ltd, a private company renowned for producing award-winning gins.
Furthermore, Gilpin serves as a Member of the Board of Trustees at The Royal Air Force Museum, a role they started in July 2021. Matthew has also founded and served as a Director in several other organizations, including SiriusInsight.AI, a maritime situational awareness AI business, EMERGING MARKETS ADVISORY CORPORATION LIMITED, an emerging markets real asset fund management company, THS Partners, a long-only funds firm, CAIB Corporate Finance, a capital markets and syndicate company, SJ Berwin, a European private equity law firm, and Merchant Securities Limited, a stockbroking and investment management firm.
Matthew Gilpin's education history is as follows:
Matthew began their education in 1983 at Millfield School, where they studied until 1987. After completing their studies at Millfield School, they went on to attend Britannia Royal Naval College in 1987 for Royal Navy Officer Training.
In 1988, Matthew enrolled at Oriel College, Oxford, where they pursued an MA in Jurisprudence (Law) until 1991. Following this, they continued their legal education at the Inns of Court School of Law from 1991 to 1992, specializing in Bar Vocational Training.
In terms of additional certifications, Matthew obtained the following:
- In 1993, they became a Barrister-at-Law with The Bar Council of England and Wales.
- In 2014, they earned the Freediving Level 2 certification from Scuba Schools International.
- In an unspecified year, they obtained the Sailing: Day Skipper certification from the Royal Yachting Association (RYA).
- In 2016, they became a Fellow (FRGS) of the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG).
- In 2019, they received the Fellow (FBIS) certification from the British Interplanetary Society.
- In 2021, they became a member of the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) and a Member (MIoD) of The Institute of Directors.
- In 2022, they obtained the General Course on Intellectual Property DL-101 certification from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
Matthew's pursuit of education has extended beyond the field of law. Matthew engaged in various programs in computer science and business, including the MIT xPRO Quantum Computing Fundamentals Programme Part 1 (QCFx1) from an unspecified start year to 2021, and the Artificial Intelligence - implications for business strategy program at the MIT Sloan School of Management from 2018 to 2019. Moreover, they studied Steering Complex Projects at Cambridge Judge Business School from 2020 to 2021.
Lastly, Matthew is currently pursuing a degree in the Role of the NED at the Institute of Directors (IoD) starting in 2021. It is unclear when this program will be completed.
