Giel Linthorst

Climate Lead

Giel Linthorst is an experienced professional in sustainability and climate strategy, currently serving as Climate Lead at ING since December 2022, where responsibilities include leading the climate strategy and connecting it to nature and just transition approaches. Prior to this role, Giel contributed to ING's net zero journey as a Sustainability Manager. As Executive Director of the Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials from September 2019 to December 2022, Giel developed a global carbon accounting standard for the financial sector, supporting over 100 institutions in measuring and disclosing greenhouse gas emissions. Giel has also held key positions at Guidehouse as Director of Sustainable Finance, leading decarbonization strategies, and at Ecofys in various managerial roles focused on sustainable products, supply chains, and energy management. Additional experience includes working as Carbon Manager at Alliander and Head of the Education sector at the Climate Office of Amsterdam. Giel holds a post-doctorate in Strategic Business Development from the University of Groningen and an Ir. degree in Technical Physics from the University of Twente.
