Michael Upward

Michael Upward is currently the Head of Financial Risk at ING, a position held since 2024. Prior to this, they held various roles in risk management, including Director at Barclays Investment Bank and Barclays Capital, where they led Counterparty Derivative Risk Management and Securitisation Credit Risk Management, respectively. Michael also served as Head of Group Market and Counterparty Credit Risk at Nordea from 2018 to 2021 before becoming Group Head of Financial Risk Management and Control at Nordea. They started their career as an Analyst at Bank of America, focusing on Telecomms and Utilities. Michael earned a Bachelor of Science in Movement Science and Physical Education from the University of Liverpool in 1996.
