Roland Merkelbag is a seasoned professional in international payments and product management, currently serving as a Customer Journey Expert for ING since June 2017. In this role, Roland oversees ING's international payment proposition related to transactional FX and cross-currency payments. Previously, Roland worked as a Senior Commercial Product Manager (freelance) in the same field. Roland is also the owner of Merkelbag Consultancy. Before joining ING, Roland held various vice president roles at Royal Bank of Scotland from 2008 to 2017, focusing on strategic product development, risk management, and revenue realization across different payment solutions and segments. Roland began a banking career at ABN AMRO Bank from 1998 to 2008, ultimately leading the global CLS 3rd party proposition. Roland holds a Bachelor's degree in Law from Erasmus University Rotterdam.
