Matthew Lucas has a diverse work experience in various government organizations. Matthew most recently served as the Executive Director of Corporate Strategy and Performance at the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada since 2015. Prior to that, they held several roles at Industry Canada, Science and Innovation Sector, including Senior Team Leader, Acting Director, and Senior Policy Advisor from 2007 to 2015. Before that, they worked as a Science and Technology Policy Analyst at Environment Canada from 2006 to 2007, and as a Senior Policy Analyst at the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation from 2005 to 2006.

Matthew Lucas has a strong education history. Matthew obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Science and Innovation Policy from the University of Toronto between 1999 and 2005. Prior to that, they earned a Master of Arts (M.A.) in History and Philosophy of Science and Technology from the University of Toronto from 1997 to 1999. Matthew also completed a Bachelor's Hon. Arts & Science Program & Physics at McMaster University from 1992 to 1997, followed by an Arts & Science & Physics (Hons.) degree at the same university during the same timeframe.
