Catherine Fan

Catherine Fan is a skilled synthetic biologist and researcher with extensive experience in the field of synthetic biology and protein engineering. Currently serving as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Institut Pasteur since March 2024, Catherine is focused on enhancing the host-range of phages and bacteria using a natural protein diversification system. Previous roles include working as a synthetic biologist at Epoch Biodesign, where strain engineering for enzyme production was the primary focus, and as a JSPS Research Fellow at The University of Tokyo, where research centered on coupling liposome division with DNA replication for artificial evolution. Catherine's education includes a DPhil in Engineering Science from the University of Oxford, a Master of Philosophy in Biochemistry from the University of Cambridge, and a Bachelor of Science in Biological Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
