Richard Boyer is a medical professional with a career spanning over 14 years. In 2007, they began as a Senior Research & Development Engineer at Baxter International Inc., where they led technology development projects and was the R&D due diligence leader for technology acquisitions. In 2016, they became an Anesthesiology Resident at Massachusetts General Hospital, where they were also a research fellow in the Cardiovascular Research Center. In 2020, they became an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Van Poznak Research Scholar at Weill Cornell Medicine. In 2021, they became a Runway Startup Postdoctoral Associate at Cornell Tech and a Chief Medical Officer and Cofounder at HoopCare, a digital perioperative health startup based at Cornell Tech and Station F. In 2020, they also founded CoVent-19 Challenge, an open innovation challenge to develop rapidly deployable solutions for the COVID-19 mechanical ventilator crisis. In 2015, they were a Cofounder at VoluMetrix, a Vanderbilt University spin-out using machine learning to develop non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring systems.

Richard Boyer attended The Johns Hopkins University from 2003 to 2007, where they earned a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering. Richard then attended Vanderbilt University from 2009 to 2016, where they completed a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.), MD/PhD Medical Scientist Training Program, as well as a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biomedical Engineering.
