Matt Houghton has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Matt has held various roles in different companies, showcasing their expertise in digital marketing, communications, strategy, and leadership.
Starting in 1996, Houghton served as the Marketing and Athlete Manager for Limited Snowboards until 1998. From 1998 to 2007, they worked at SBC Media as the Group Editorial Director and Editor of Snowboard Canada Magazine, leading multiple magazines, websites, and social media platforms.
In 2008, Houghton joined Bell as a Digital Product Manager for Sympatico.ca, where they were responsible for business strategy, content planning, development, and marketing. Matt stayed with the company until 2012.
Houghton then moved to Bell Media, where they worked as the Director of Digital, Entertainment Specialty from 2012 to 2014. Matt oversaw the digital strategy, content, and business for multiple brands and led new site launches, including the re-brand and transition of Sympatico.ca to The Loop.
From 2014 to 2015, Houghton held the position of Director, Specialty Digital Business and Partnerships at Bell Media. In this role, they managed digital business and partnerships for all brands within the Entertainment Specialty group, focusing on revenue targets, multi-platform strategies, and sponsored content executions.
In 2016, Houghton briefly worked at Wasserman as the Director of Digital: Brands and Experience before joining Red Bull as the Director of Communications. At Red Bull, they were responsible for brand communications through various media channels and led the national communication strategy.
In 2017, Houghton returned to the agency world and joined Publicis Canada. Matt initially served as the Director of Digital Strategy, where they developed campaign strategies and ecosystems. Matt later became the Senior Director of Digital Strategy, leading a team of strategists and focusing on measurable results and innovative solutions.
Most recently, Houghton worked at Interac Corp. as the Director of Digital and Integrated Marketing starting in 2019. In this role, they managed advertising campaigns, digital and social channels, and collaborated with stakeholders to amplify brand messaging and business priorities.
Matt Houghton attended the School of Communication Arts (Seneca and York) from 1990 to 1992, where they earned a Diploma with High Honours in Creative Advertising and Broadcasting.
