Brian Scanlan has a diverse work experience in the field of systems engineering and administration. Brian started their career in 1999 as a Solaris Support Engineer at Horizon Open Systems. Brian then worked as a Unix Systems Administrator at The Irish Times from 2001 to 2002. Brian briefly served as a Systems Administrator at Cast-Info in 2002-2003. In 2004, they joined HEAnet Ltd. as a Senior Systems Administrator, where they focused on building an ISP to connect primary and secondary schools in Ireland to the Internet. Brian also handled NOC activities and connected other academic institutions to HEAnet. From 2008 to 2012, Brian worked at Amazon.com, initially as a Systems Engineer, where they managed Amazon's DNS and Hardware Load Balancers. Brian later became a Software Development Manager, responsible for Amazon's Load Balancer team. In this role, they led the team and oversaw the automation and operation of large numbers of Hardware Load Balancers. Since 2014, Brian has been working at Intercom as a Senior Principal Systems Engineer. Their responsibilities include working on Intercom's availability, costs, operations, developer productivity, data management, security, and IT. Brian also assists teams in developing technical strategies and implements solutions.
Brian Scanlan attended Dublin City University from 1997 to 1999, where they studied Computer Applications. Brian then pursued their education at Technological University Dublin from 2005 to 2009, specializing in Business and Legal Studies.
