The International Amber Association (IAA) was established in Gdańsk, the global capital of amber, in 1996. Its primary aim is to promote the Baltic amber and disseminate information about this fossilized resin, which is around 40 million years old. Presently, the IAA has 300 members from 30 countries worldwide, including producers, artists, designers, scientists, and Baltic amber enthusiasts. The IAA's Amber Laboratory conducts tests on Baltic amber and issues certificates of authenticity. The IAA Gallery showcases jewelry exhibitions by both Polish and foreign artists who use Baltic amber in their creations. The IAA engages in publishing activities, such as releasing books and Bursztynisko - The Amber Magazine, a bilingual publication packed with knowledge on amber, industry news, scientific topics, and the presentation of contemporary amber jewelry.
