Maarten Smits

Maarten Smits is a Plant Production Scientist at Interstellar Lab, where Maarten conducts research on plant growth in controlled-environment agriculture systems. Prior to this, Maarten volunteered as a Guide at Koninklijke Burgers'​ Zoo & Safari Meeting Centre, educating visitors on plant and animal anatomy. Maarten also worked as a Microbiology Analyst at Mérieux NutriSciences, ensuring food safety. Earlier, as a Research Intern at Nagasaki University, Maarten focused on the importance of human immunoglobulin G Fc receptor IIa during flavivirus infections. Additionally, Maarten served as a Board Member and Treasurer at B.V.W. Biologica. Maarten holds a Master of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Wageningen University & Research.
