Dan van Loon has a diverse work experience in various roles and companies. Dan started their career as a Technical Illustrator/Assistant/Graphic Arts Coordinator at Data Specialties/Zebra Technologies in 1979, where they worked on technical documentation, drafting, illustration, and print production management. In 1985, they joined Arab World Media as a Designer and Graphic Arts Specialist, handling all graphic arts operations. Dan then moved to Scripture Press in 1986 as an Art Director, where they played a significant role in starting the in-house marketing area and guided the company in adopting new technologies. In 1996, Dan became a Founding Partner at DesignCorps, dividing their time between production, creative design, and daily business operations. Finally, in 2015, they joined InterVarsity Press as a Senior Content Production Specialist/Book Interior Designer.

Dan van Loon attended Wheeling High School; however, no information regarding their degree or field of study is available. Following this, they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Graphic Arts Technology at Northern Illinois University from 1981 to 1985. Moreover, from 1975 to 1977, they also attended Roosevelt University, focusing on Music Performance (Flute).
