--- The backstory
The seed for ROM Labs was probably always in my nature. As a child, I’d open up almost every toy I got, but that habit slowed after I couldn’t put back together the fancy ride-on car my dad got me. I was five or six when I readjusted my risk appetite to smaller things — mostly the many remote-controlled cars I had. After nearly two decades of professional work, I finally have the time and space to bring that curiosity to life.

Being born in a Jain household, I’ve been raised to respect all forms of life and to consume only what is necessary. Over the years, I’ve come to realise that consuming and hoarding more than we truly need feeds unrest — whether it’s food, content, or things. The system often equates consumption as growth but its true cost is our time, energy, money, attention, and eventually, life itself. As ordinary as it seems, mindless consumption is a quiet form of destruction — of life around us and within us.

The last 15 years with startups across product, engineering, compliance, and marketing have given me the complementary skills to take on this journey — nothing front-page-worthy, but enough to give me what I value most today: time and goodwill.

--- Starting Deepawali 2025, I now divide that time between my professional work and what fulfills me most — being in nature, studying the self, and building ROM Labs.

--- Path forward

I believe nothing is possible without participation, and nothing is impossible with it. So at ROM Labs, we focus on two things: (i) Building frameworks that reveal the cost of consumption and the joy of restraint while giving people a chance to participate. And (ii) It’s where philosophy meets innovation — exploring material science, chemistry, energy, and electronics to help us draw less from the planet and yet get more.

It’s early days, and I’m learning as I go — balancing work, building a team, connecting with like-minded people, and looking for ideas worth shaping.
