I Am Because We Are.

Inuka is a Community-rooted nonprofit creating sustainable, affordable housing for low- to moderate-income households in Winnipeg. “Inuka” means “to rise” in Swahili, and we believe in rising together—through housing, community ownership, and shared opportunity.

Guided by the African philosophy of Ubuntu—“I am because we are”—Inuka was born during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2021, when community members came together virtually to explore solutions to urgent challenges. Beyond the urgent need for stable, affordable housing, we saw an opportunity to offer more than just rental housing: pathways to financial stability, homeownership, and generational wealth.
