Larry Benbow recently joined IO Informatics as Director of Systems Engineering. With Masters degrees in biochemistry and computer science and 20+ years' experience in the pharmaceutical industry, Larry bridges the gap between science and software development to direct and coordinate application development activities at IO Informatics. Larry's M.S. degree was granted by the elite Stevens Institute of Technology. His practical background includes research, bioinformatics and scientific application development and support. In addition to deep experience evidenced by multiple peer-reviewed publications within the pharmaceutical industry, Larry was engaged by Rancho Biosciences, a "manual curation" oriented data curation and integration company.
This has given Larry insights into "legacy" systems and methods for data integration and into the next generation technologies such as that developed by IOI, to solve emerging big data problems in this field. Larry met the IO Informatics team while employed at Schering-Plough Research Institute / Merck Inc. Larry was engaged for Merck, working with IOI team on a production installation of IOI's Sentient software at Merck Research Labs. The Merck installation was a success and IOI has been fortunate to have been able to subsequently engage Larry in the Director of Systems Engineering role.
