Where simple data such as on/off used to suffice, intelligent automation is now in demand. With IO-Link, the lowest field level becomes a valuabel digital data supplier. The manufacturer-independent and internationally renowned standard enables continuous communication of cyclic (process data) and acyclic (parameters & diagnostic data) data – down to the smallest sensor and actuator.
IO-Link is fieldbus-independent and opens up far more possibilities than just sensor / actuator connection:

• Easy installation and integration
• Cross-manufacturer compatibility
• Complete transparency down to the sensor/actuator
• Independent of the controllers and fieldbuses used
• Configuration during operation

IO-Link is internationally standardized (IEC 61131) and the ideal solution for companies that want to connect their products to a wide variety of systems and controllers worldwide.

IO-Link Safety & Wireless: More Opportunities for the Industry

IO-Link Safety extends the technology to include functionally safe communication – for machines and systems that must meet safety-related requirements. IO-Link Wireless complements the system with reliable, real-time, deterministic wireless communication – ideal for flexible and mobile applications in factory automation. Both technologies have been successfully adapted without compromising on the well-known reliability.

IO-Link on the Road to Success Worldwide

Behind the technology is the IO-Link Community with well over 500 member companies worldwide and a steadily growing product portfolio of more than 30,000 solutions. It guarantees innovation, interoperability, and strong industrial networking. More than 71 million IO-Link devices are already in use worldwide – and the trend is rising: in 2025 alone, 9.7 million new IO-Link nodes were added.
