Carbonell is the CEO of MagArray, Inc., a medical device company that has developed a revolutionary magnetic-nanoparticle based technology for the detection of proteins and other biomarkers, and is the CEO of IonDX, Inc., a life sciences instrument company developing atmospheric ion mobility spectrometry. With extensive international experience in the life sciences and manufacturing industries, they lead cross-functional, multi-cultural teams to drive aggressive company growth. They previously served as Vice President of Operations at Oncotech / Exiqon from 2001 to 2009, guiding operations through its acquisition by Exiqon for $46 million. At Eisai, they managed the planning, development and establishment of a $43 million FDA-approved pharmaceutical manufacturing/R&D subsidiary in North Carolina and a $17 million manufacturing/sales and marketing subsidiary in Suzhou. They earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University (1985–1989) and an MBA / MEM in Finance and Marketing from Northwestern Kellogg School of Management (1991–1993).
