Laird Egan is a Senior Quantum Systems Engineer at IonQ since April 2021, focused on advancing quantum computing technology. Prior to this role, Laird served as a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Maryland College Park from August 2017 to April 2021, contributing to the Trapped Ion Quantum Information group under Professor Christopher Monroe, with research aimed at developing large-scale quantum information networks. Laird's career began at Lockheed Martin Advanced Technology Labs, where from July 2012 to July 2017, responsibilities included developing next-generation defense technologies, engaging in the full technology lifecycle, and participating in the Engineering Leadership Development Program, which provided a foundation in technical leadership. Laird holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Maryland, a Master of Science in Engineering in Nanotechnology from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Physics from Bucknell University.
